Autism Assessments
At The Neurodiversity Hub, we ensure that we follow the National Institute for Health and Care Excellent (NICE) guidlines. This defines a “Gold Standard” Autism Assessment for children and adults as involving the following essential components:
-
Engaging at least two experts from distinct fields, such as Clinical Psychologists, or Speech and Language Therapists, with specialised autism training and experience, additionally maintaining HCPC registration.
-
Whenever possible, we encourage input from a family member/carer and school to provide additional perspectives on the individual’s experiences.
-
Reviewing relevant documents, such as school reports or specialised assessments, to provide background on behaviours and information on early development.
-
A holistic assessment drawing on multiple diagnostic tools for an accurate and well-rounded evaluation.
-
Using the DSM-5 criteria, we take an in-depth developmental history with tools such as the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) or Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA).
-
An in-person session evaluates social and communication skills, employing tools like ADOS-2 to pinpoint behaviours consistent with diagnostic criteria. We also offer online observations for adults.
-
Our multi-disciplinary team collaboratively reviews all findings to provide an accurate, comprehensive outcome. in this meeting, professionals also discuss and evaluate a differential diagnosis.
