Our Adult Assessment process involves several key stages
-
Our screening forms collect specific information to learn more about you, including your strengths and things you may find more difficult. It also enables us to determine if an autism assessment is the appropriate pathway. Additionally, we ask you to complete specific questionnaires, including the Autism Quotient (AQ) (adult version), the Empathy Quotient (EQ) and the Childhood Autism Spectrum Test (CAST) is to be completed by an informant, such as a parent or sibling. These questionnaires provide insight into your strengths and identify possible characteristics of autism.
-
We offer a choice of two clinical Interviews on our adult assessment pathway. Our neurodevelopmental specialists can administer the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R), where they meet with an informant (such as your parents /guardians or older siblings) to gather an in-depth developmental history, along with specific information around your language and communication, social development and play, and interests and behaviours during childhood. Additionally, we can administer the Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA) with yourself, where we gather information about your current and past experiences, including interests, social interactions and behaviours. You can be accompanied by a relative or spouse who is able to provide additional information during this assessment. Our clinicians are trained and at administering these assessments and they are completed online.
-
The ADOS-2 is a standardised assessment and integral part of the assessment process. This is administered by one of our friendly and skilled neurodevelopmental specialists during a face-to-face assessment in one of our clinics. This assessment can last approximately one hour. We do offer an option of an adapted online observation on our adult assessment pathway.
-
When all assessment components are completed, our multi-disciplinary team meet to review information. Our skilled team work through the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for autism and decide on an outcome and each case is overseen by one of our dedicated and experienced clinical psychologists. If additional information is required, we will contact you accordingly and discuss next steps.
-
You will be provided with a comprehensive report, detailing all information collected by each assessment and the clinical outcome. This report highlights both your strengths and areas you may find more difficult. Each report includes personalised recommendations to support you going forward.
-
Our reports are extremely comprehensive, so we allow you time to read and process information within the report before booking in with your lead clinician for a feedback meeting. During this meeting, you are able to ask any questions about the outcome, assessment process and recommendations.
