ADHD Assessments For Children

Specialising in providing high-quality, NICE-compliant Autism and ADHD assessments from our trusted Assessment Hubs across the UK

At The Neurodiversity Hub, all of our child and adult ADHD assessments are completed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. ADHD assessments are available to children age 6 and above.

Each assessment follows the nationally recognised ‘gold standard’ and are completed by a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest level of diagnostic validation. An ADHD assessment with the Neurodiversity Hub includes the following essential components:

Phase one: Screening

Our highly experienced clinical psychologists will take a thorough developmental and psychiatric history and collate information regarding your child’s current needs and your family history. This appointment helps us determine whether a full ADHD assessment is appropriate for your child.

Our screening forms collect specific information about your child that also helps us to determine whether or not a full assessment for ADHD is appropriate. We will ask your child, you, and your child’s teacher to complete screening forms and questionnaires to help us identify possible traits of ADHD. As recommended by NICE guidelines, we use the Connor’s Rating Scales and the SNAP-IV.

As part of your child’s screening assessment, our neurodevelopmental experts will review any professional reports that you have, including for example, a letter from your child’s GP, a mental health assessment, school reports and educational psychology reports.

Phase 2: Full Assessment

To assess for the core diagnostic features of ADHD, our neurodevelopmental expert will complete a structured clinical interview. We use Young Diagnostic Interview for ADHD (Young-DIVA) for children, which is a globally used diagnostic tool, that aligns with the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. The Young-DIVA takes place with you and your child and it can be held either in-person or remotely in certain circumstances.
We will contact your child’s school and ask them to complete a comprehensive school information and observation form. This allows our team to understand how your child behaves in their school setting and helps us to understand whether their school teachers have observed features of ADHD.

Our multi-disciplinary team will review the findings from all aspects of your child’s ADHD assessment to provide a comprehensive and valid outcome. Our skilled team work through the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for ADHD and will consider whether ADHD is the best and most appropriate diagnosis. Each case is overseen by one of our dedicated and experienced clinical psychologist.

Our child ADHD reports are extremely comprehensive, so before organising your feedback appointment, you will have the chance to read and process the information in your child’s personalised report. During your feedback meeting, your lead clinician will be available to explain the MDT’s decision making and answer any questions you may have about the assessment process, the outcome and the recommendations.
You will receive a detailed report, outlining each part of your child’s ADHD assessment and the clinical outcome. The report will highlight your child’s strengths and areas they find more difficult and the MDT will include personalised recommendations to support your child moving forward. This is your’s and you child’s report to keep and you are free to share it with anyone you would like.
